The park is known for its historic significance in the development of Middle Tennessee. The arboretum is located in Moss-Wright Park, a 147-acre park located on Caldwell Drive in Goodlettsville, TN. Sixty-four (64) trees make up the arboretum which was certified on Jby the Tennessee Urban Forestry Council (TUFC). Indians and early settlers often boiled the moss or laid it on a rack over a smoky fire (making sure it didn't catch fire!) to kill or remove the bugs.The Moss-Wright Arboretum is a level two certified arboretum developed in 2019 by the Goodlettsville Tree Committee (previously a sub committee of the Parks and Recreation Board) working in conjunction with the City of Goodlettsville. Before Spanish moss can be used by humans it must be treated to remove the bugs. Be sure to mention that Spanish moss has tiny bugs that live on it called chiggers or red bugs that cause an uncomfortable itch if they get on your skin. If your class visits Kingsley Plantation, have your students look for Spanish moss in the trees.
